In life, there are days and moments where everything we do does not feel enough, or face situations that are beyond our control. A common response to such instances is to doubt ourselves and our abilities, and that is a very normal and human thing to do. But the effect of self-doubt can cut both ways: It can either spur us to achieve our goals and thereby boost our confidence levels, or cause us to feel entirely powerless and paralysed. Fortunately, whether we allow it to work for or against us is mostly up to us. In this issue, we will explore the ways in which we can harness self-doubt to build confidence -- one step at a time.

Women are narrowing the confidence gap with men when it comes to managing money, study shows

Women are closing in on men when it comes to their self-evaluated financial prowess, recent research shows. Overall, 55% of women and 60% of men are confident in their ability to manage their finances, according to U.S. Bank’s 2022 Women and Wealth Insights study. Of course, this means there are still 43% of women who don’t have confidence about their long-term savings. If you’re among them and do not know how to go about establishing a nest egg, experts say you just need to get over the initial hump.

Why confidence and knowledge can lead to smart money decisions

Two common areas that cause people to procrastinate financially are knowledge and confidence. Logically, we know that financial literacy can boost our confidence to make informed money-management decisions. Yet, many people tell me that they lack the confidence to learn and absorb that financial knowledge, which holds them back. However, everybody is capable of effectively managing their money. Take small steps, follow and when doubt starts to creep in, remind yourself that money is only a tool and you are learning.

You can watch this inspiring documentary here. I got to know Lim Seng in 2013 and kept up with him over the years on this project to send the First Singaporean to Space. We were finally in Alice Springs Australia in May 2018 together with 70 others including the fun crew from CNA!

Business discussion with Samuel always excites and inspires me that there are so many business opportunities I can create by using his systems and ideas. A more effective advisory process sets me apart. Worked with him for the past 20 years. Truly appreciate his work!

I am privileged to head the Media/Crowdfunding team for the First Singaporean to Space project. It was sad that we could not launch due to unexpected strong winds in the jet stream more than 100 knots. But the team isn't giving up. In the picture is Maj. Yip Chuang Syn, (SMASH) an active Air Force Pilot, who will be Singapore's first Astronaut when the flight attempt happens in 2019!
